Instructor:  Nate Novgrod began his journey into Chinese medicine through martial arts training. As the result of a sports injury he sought alternative care and discovered all that Chinese medicine had to offer. This interest combined with personal experience led to him obtaining a Masters of Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine from the #1 school in the country, the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine in 2009. This allowed him to sit for his board exams and become nationally certified and state licensed. He has been in practice in the beautiful mountains of Western North Carolina ever since and is happy to be able to help people find health in modern times with the ancient arts of Chinese medicine.

A caring therapeutic touch will be discussed, demonstrated and performed to support the physiological, structural and emotional well-being of mother to be. The therapist will review the common changes with pregnancy and the female reproductive system. We will explore protocols to alleviate the reduction of joint pain due to extra weight and postural imbalance, improved breathing and relaxation, relief from uncomfortable digestive issues and enhance energy levels. We study massage techniques and gentle range of motion to help mothers experience their changing body in more positive nurturing ways.

Instructor:  Dina Giugliano, LMT:  Dina has a diverse background and believes that mindfulness, breathe and movement are the keys to a long and abundant life. She is a graduate of the NY College of Health Professions with an AOS in Massage Therapy. Dina completed the 1600 hour accredited program at NY College. She is a certified Hatha yoga instructor, certified Dharma & Prenatal Yoga Instructor, trained in Pranayama (Breathing exercises) and Mindfulness Meditation.  As the Owner/CEO of Kashmir Hands “Knead the Body to Balance” Inc., she is also an Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT), Certified Yoga Instructor(CYI), Certified Birth Doula(CBD)  in New York State, North and South Carolina and an Approved Provider for the National Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.

You will learn the basics of motor control theory and the NeuroKinetic Therapy® system’s protocol. Manual muscle testing will be demonstrated for each segment of the body. How to recognize compensation patterns, whether they are from reciprocal inhibition or a dysfunction in a kinetic chain, will comprise much of the classroom theory. There is sufficient time for hands on practice. Teaching Assistant for this workshop is David Phillips, MS, LMBT.

This “Save Your Hands” practical course combines the nature of light to deep tissue work using elbows, forearms, and hands. Demonstration and practical trades will be integrated.  Open communication during this session is crucial to make sure you do not get too uncomfortable. This course is designed to focus on using one’s body mechanics and increase self-awareness to leverage the pressure.  Participants will learn thorough methodical movements at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia, called connective tissue.  The participants will learn to increase their body mechanics and understand the benefits of light to deep thorough pressure by saving their hands. Participants will leave confident in the use of their elbows, forearms and targeted range of motion.

This is a two part course covering anatomy from both a palpatory perspective and a Chinese Medical perspective. We will cover the major muscles and anatomical landmarks as well as discussing the channel connections from Chinese Medicine.
